SUFFOLK-Ace Hardware's new East Coast import re-distribution center in Suffolk is now open.

Mayor Linda Johnson and company officials cut the ribbon Thursday on the $14 million, 336,000-square-foot facility in the CenterPoint Intermodal Center on Route 58.

Items brought in from overseas for U.S. distribution will come through the Port of Virginia, which was selling point for locating in Suffolk. The center can hold up to $40 million in goods.

Ace officials say the facility will help its 54 Virginia stores and those around the country meet customer needs quicker, especially during weather emergencies.

The facility also brought 75 new jobs to the city.

Gov. Bob McDonnell approved a $100,000 grant from the Governor's Opportunity Fund for the project.
