Wayne Carter

13NEWS Investigator/Anchor

Wayne Carter brought more than 10 years of television experience to Hampton Roads when he joined the 13NEWS Team in April of 2004. "This is the only station where I walked in the door and immediately knew I'd be here for a while. Pardon the pun, but there really is a Spirit about this place, something that lets you know you're home," says Carter. Wayne has anchored and reported at television stations as far north as Rochester, N.Y. and as far south as New Orleans, La.

In Hampton Roads, Wayne covered breaking news on the night team before joining the 13NEWS Investigators, and now anchors various newscasts. He's also brought home breaking news coverage of the police shooting at Military Circle Mall, the Berkley Bridge malfuction that gridlocked Norfolk and Portsmouth, and those toxic barrels found underneath an exclusive Chesapeake Subdivision.

Wayne has covered Presidential visits, the September 11th attacks, and the Worldcom accounting scandal, but his most memorable stories came in 2005. Wayne worked for three weeks in his hometown of New Orleans, La. covering Hurricane Katrina's devistation, sharing his family's personal struggle to survive after losing their home, jobs, and even family members to the storm. "It was so hard to look around and see your hometown, everything you ever knew, ruined. I knew I had to report calmly, and present the facts. It was terribly difficult considering how much Katrina stole from my family, from my town."

Wayne is especially interested in aviation stories and wants to become a pilot in his spare time, especially since he loves to travel. You'll often find Wayne sitting on the beach, watching the ocean near his Virginia Beach home, volunteering time with children, and trying his hand in the kitchen.

If you have information or a story idea for Wayne, or would like him to volunteer at an event, you can reach him via e-mail at wcarter@wvec.com.
