FRANKLIN - Police have taken into custody a man they suspect sexually assaulted a woman that around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday morning on Washington Street. Police say the arrest came during the investigation of a second burglary and rape.
Tremaine M. Porter, 26, of the 300 block of Edwards Street in Franklin has been charged with abduction and rape of a juvenile victim in a second assault case while the investigation into the Washington Street incident is still ongoing. Police say there is strong reason to believe that Porter is involved in the Washington Street assault as well.
According to police, they were investigating the case of the second sexual assault victim in which the suspect led the victim to the back of an apartment complex where he allegedly, abducted and raped her by force.
A suspect was developed and warrants were obtained for Porter who was found at a residence in the city of Suffolk. Franklin officers with the assistance of Suffolk police took Porter into custody at a residence in the 7600 Block of Harvest Drive without incident.
The first sexual assault happened 5:30 a.m. in the 500 block of Washington Street.
Police say a woman was asleep when the man broke through the back door, sexually assaulted her and then hit her in the face.
The 48-year-old woman, who was alone in the home, was taken to the hospital for treatment.
