VIRGINIA BEACH-- Dominion Power says 15,000 customers in Virginia Beach were without power Wednesday after a tree fell on a transmission line near Northampton Blvd. and Bayside Rd.
The areas affected were Stratford, Shore Dr. and Independence Blvd.
Wind also toppled a tree on Kempsville Road in Norfolk around 4:30 p.m. The road was shut down between Virginia Beach Blvd. and Airway Dr.
Fire officials said the tree hit a car and the driver suffered minor injuries but was treated at the scene.
Officials expect the road to be shut down for at least two hours.
A tree also blocked one lane of I-64 westbound around 5:30 p.m. Traffic was backed up for two miles.
