UPDATE 7:40 p.m.:  Crews have completed repairs on the broken water main, according to Harry Kenyon with Norfolk Public Utilities. Service is in the process of being restored.

Officials say the break is likely due to the cold snap.

NORFOLK -- Crews worked to repair a 16-inch water main break at 49th Street and Hampton Boulevard in Norfolk Monday afternoon.

City officials tell WVEC.com the break caused outages at Old Dominion University and from Bolling Avenue to 46th Street.

The cause of the leak was a worn tapping saddle connection due to erosion over a period of time, officials said.

Crews were working to excavate the main and to be able to determine how long the outage will last.

ODU says the following buildings were affected:

•    Health Sciences
•    Child Study Center
•    Engineering and Computational Sciences
•    Batten Arts and Letters
•    Rollins Hall
•    Education
