VIRGINIA BEACH-- Thousands of runners turned out at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex Saturday.

“People love this time of year. Valentines and the whole love theme; everything is a blast.”

The "Virginia is for Lovers" run is a warm up event for the Shamrock Marathon. Veteran Bob Schniedwind announced each group up on the stage.

The course wrapped around the Princess Anne area near the amphitheater, and runners of all skill levels participated.  “There’s a 1K for the kids. This is the 6K, which is 3 ½ miles. There’s a 14K being that the first year we had it was on Valentine’s Day."

Bon Secours was the big underwriter of this race, with many groups running. “Team Hoyt is a community organization in Hampton Roads. We take runners that want to push athletes that have disabilities in local races,” Steve Brown explained.
