RICHMOND (AP) -- A 22-year-old Prince George County woman who allegedly left her two young children in her car while she went to work has been charged with two felony murder charges.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that a grand jury returned the indictment Monday against Brittney Rochelle Downing. Each count carries a penalty of up to 40 years in prison.

Downing was at her third day of work at a hotel in suburban Richmond when she left the children in the car over at least a seven-hour period on May 26.

Rescue workers were unable to revive one of the children, a 20-month-old boy, while his 3-month-old sister died days later.

Both children died of heat-related reasons.
