VIRGINIA BEACH - Va. Beach Thursday lifted the boil water advisory put in place Monday after a water main on Laskin Road burst.

Tests over two days show the water is safe to drink, so residents and workers north of 24th Street, east of Birdneck Road, and south of Fort Story can use water without boiling it first.

The boil water notice was needed to ensure drinking water was safe and met state and federal drinking water standards, officials said..

The 36" water main broke around 2:00 a.m. Monday, so people living in the Laskin Road and Beach district areas had low or no water pressure.  Crews with the Department of Public Utilities isolated the source of the break and restored water service shortly after 7:00 a.m.
