GLOUCESTER CO.-- A Virginia Beach man was arrested Thursday for allegedly exchanging sexually explicit text messages with a minor.

Police say 39-year-old John Andrew Steele of the 5100 Block of Foxon Drive met the 17-year-old victim online in December.

Police say the text messaging conversations became sexually explicit and Steele asked his victim to text him nude pictures of herself.

On Jan. 14, the teenager and her mother filed a complaint with the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office.

Police searched Steele's Virginia Beach home and found "numerous items of digital evidence."

Steele is employed by the Department of Defense as a civilian police officer at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth.

He is charged with two counts of using a communications device to solicit a minor for certain sexual offenses and two counts of producing child pornography.

Steele is currently being held in the Virginia Beach City Jail with no bond.
