NEW YORK CITY -- Hundreds of Cavalier fans from all over the country have descended on New York City to watch Virginia take on Michigan State in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA men's basketball tournament.
Overall, spirits were high early Friday night as fans took to the streets near Madison Square Garden.
Sarah Payne, a UVA alumna and Hampton Roads native, says she feels confident Virginia will clench the victory against the No. 4 seed Spartans.
"We've been through the dark days with football and this is a great, great opportunity," said Payne.
While many fans celebrated, others eager to get in on the action desperately waited outside the arena hoping to buy tickets to the sold out game.
"No one is selling," said Taylor Powell, a UVA grad.
Those in search of tickets say that while admission to Friday night's matchup is at the top of their list, they're being extra cautious when it comes to scalpers.
"A lot of people are getting ripped off," said alumna Katerine De Silva.
