WILLIAMSBURG-Hundreds of people in Williamsburg are without power because a tree fell on power lines and a transformer.

It happened around 4:30 a.m. in the 300 block of Merrimac Trail.

"There will be a complete power outage for an extended period of time in that area," said Eric Stone with the Williamsburg Fire Department.

Merrimac Trail is closed from the Colonial Parkway to Capitol Landing Road; however, people who live and work in the area will be allowed to go in and out.

Dominion Power crews and the Williamsburg Police and Fire departments are on the scene.
