Suspect identified following Beach bank robbery

UPDATE 1/11/14: 32-year-old Demetreus Dancy is in custody in connection with this robbery.

Police responded to the robbery Friday at 2:52 p.m.

Witnesses gave officers descriptions of the suspect and his vehicle. Officers found the suspect's vehicle close to the interstate. They then deployed a tire flatation device to stop him on I-264 near Witchduck Road.

The investigation continues and has been assigned to the Virginia Beach Police Department's Detective Bureau.


VIRGINIA BEACH -- One person is in custody following an armed bank robbery in Virginia Beach.

Police say the suspect entered Towne Bank at 984 First Colonial Road in Virginia Beach around 3 p.m. Friday, showed he had a gun and demanded money. 

The suspect was given cash and then fled the bank.

Authorities say a vehicle and suspect description were relayed to officers.  Police spotted the black SUV near Lynnhaven Pkwy. The SUV eluded police and drove onto I-264 westbound.  

Police used a tire-deflation device to stop the vehicle near Witchduck Road.

The suspect was then taken into custody.

The investigation continues.
