Sussex teen killed
UPDATE 12/13: A Petersburg man has been charged in the fatal shooting of a Sussex County teenager in September.
Garrick Lewis, 24, turned himself on Nov. 18 to the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office and was charged with involuntary manslaughter, discharging a firearm in an occupied building and reckless handling of a firearm.
JARRATT -- The body of a Sussex County teen who was shot to death has been taken to the Chief Medical Examiner's Office in Richmond.
Investigators are still trying to figure out the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of 15-year-old Tyler Givens who was killed Sunday.
Officials with Virginia State Police say the teen suffered a fatal gunshot wound at a family home on Jefferson Road in the town of Jarratt.
Police have not said whether the shooting was an accident or if the teen fired the gun himself.
His family is heartbroken over the loss.
"He was a lovable person," said older brother Larry Lewis. "Everybody liked him. "
Givens went to Sussex Central High School, and his brother tells 13News Now he played football and a had a lot of friends.
State Police say no charges or arrests have been made at this point in the investigation.
