Location of weapons incident
SUFFOLK, VA -- Police in Suffolk are looking for a man who briefly led them on a pursuit before officers ended the chase for the public's safety.
According to a news release, Suffolk Police were called to a residence in the 300 block of Ash Wood Drive shortly after 2 p.m. for a undescribed reported weapons violation. The suspect, identified as 23 year-old Johnathan Standaert, had already fled the scene prior to the officers' arrival.
When police located the vehicle a short time later and attempted to make a traffic stop, the suspect refused and led officers on a short vehicle pursuit. At some point a decison to end the pursuit was made as it was deemed a risk to the public.
Warrants were obtained for Mr. Standaert for Brandishing a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon, Reckless Driving, Eluding Police, and Driving While Revoked.
Johnathan Standaert is described as a light skin black male, 6’2” and approximately 170 pounds in weight. Police say he is believed to be homeless and living in his vehicle, described as a silver Nissan bearing VA licence plate: WNZ-8263.
