VIRGINIA BEACH--As the city of Virginia Beach celebrates fifty years, Mayor Will Sessoms said his plan is for Virginia Beach to lead Virginia.

In Sessoms’ annual State of the City address, he emphasized continuing growth and prosperity in the city by capitalizing on what’s already been done.

“Working together will lead the city of Virginia Beach and along with it, the great Commonwealth of Virginia,” said Sessoms.

The mayor also highlighted growth in the areas of business, education and transportation.

“We’re building and rebuilding roads with our own money. You simply do not see other municipal governments committing millions of dollars to self improvement projects,” said Sessoms.

The mayor also emphasized his continuous commitment to getting light rail to extend to Virginia Beach as well as getting a professional sports arena and team in the city.

“A major league sports team and arena should be located in the region, in Virginia Beach.  I assure you that we will stay focused on this most significant initiative,” said Sessoms.
