NORFOLK -- The sound of gunfire broke the early-morning quiet on several Norfolk streets.

Police say two men opened fire on Rallston Street, near the weigh station for the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel and some of the bullets struck the second floor of an apartment building around 3:30 a.m.

"Everybody in this apartment complex has children. It's usually quiet down here, so it's a little nerve wracking," said Misty Spence.

Police say the suspects are black, in their early to mid-20s who were wearing all dark clothing and driving a small, dark-colored car.

It was the third report of shots fired in the city within 30 minutes, said police spokeswoman Karen Parker-Chesson. The first report came in at 3:03 a.m. from people living in apartments in the 6600 block of Chesapeake Blvd.   More shots were fired around 3:20 a.m. in the 1400 block of East Ocean View Avenue, about four miles from the first scene.

Parker-Chesson says it's unclear whether the incidents are connected and no one was hurt at any of the locations.
