ELIZABETH CITY -- The Elizabeth City Police Department conducted a large-scale drug roundup on Thursday following several months of undercover buys. They dubbed it “Operation Double Down.”
The Department’s Narcotics Enforcement Unit began an undercover campaign last summer aimed at taking street level dealers off the street.
The undercover officers made purchases from 21 individuals who had warrants sworn against them on Tuesday afternoon.
Officers were briefed and took to the streets by 9 a.m. on Thursday morning with informational packets detailing the names of those who had warrants filed against them.
Officials said some suspects ran, others hid in houses and one even under a crib.
By 12 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, 12 of those individuals had been picked up, processed and placed in Albemarle District Jail.
