NORFOLK-It's September and we're part way through the Atlantic Coast hurricane season, which ends November 30.

People who live in Hampton Roads and northeastern North Carolina know a disaster can hit at any time - from hurricanes to earthquakes and tornadoes.

This is National Preparedness Month Partnership. Dominion Power and the Red Cross want to remind you it's never too early to plan for the worst so recovery can be a little easier.

Tips for emergency preparedness:
Make a plan. Make sure your family understands where to go and what to do in case of an emergency.

Make sure you have supplies ready in case you lose power. Items include batteries and storing water.

In Hampton, there will be a free Preparedness day Workshop on September 28 at the Northampton Community Center, 1435-A Todds Lane from 9:00 a.m. until noon. Call 757-8311 to register.
