School buses crash in Newport News, kids report bumps and bruises

NEWPORT NEWS- Nearly 45 kids reported having bumps and bruises after two school buses collided in their elementary school parking lot Wednesday.

Officials said two fully loaded school buses were involved in a rear end crash at Jenkins Elementary School during school dismissal.

None of the students were transported from the scene to hospitals.  The school nurse attended to all of the injuries.

Officials said the bus that was rear ended had 57 passengers with 28 minor injuries and bus that hit it had 37 passengers with 14 reporting minor injuries. 

Officials said the parents of involved students were contacted by the school and all of the remaining students were transported to their homes on alternate buses.

It is estimated that the buses incurred about $10,000 in damage. 

No charges are pending.
