ISLE OF WIGHT - Several homes were vandalized about the same time someone vandalized school buses in Isle of Wight County.

Sheriff's office spokeswoman Kristin Wilda says deputies are working to determine whether the crimes are connected.

The windows on 17 buses parked at Smithfield High School were smashed between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. At nearby Red Oaks Mobile Community, windows of several homes had been smashed in.

School officials are waiting for repair estimates so they can submit a claim to the insurance company.

Meantime, the Isle of Wight County School system is considering whether to install cameras outside the high school.
