Friends remember 2 men killed at Hampton skate park

UPDATE: Friends of the victims  said the park was a regular hangout and that Walker was a talented BMX biker.
"I don't know if there was an altercation or not, but I just lost two really good friends," said one man who didn't want to be identified. 


UPDATE: Police say it appears the 16-year-old suspect and victims, who were all known to one another, got into a verbal altercation. The suspect left the skate park and returned a short time later armed with a firearm and shot the two men. 
The victims have been identified as 21-year-old Donivan K. Walker and 20-year-old Kenneth J. Wilson, both from Hampton.
“This is a tragic incident that underscores the need for our community’s continued commitment toward youth violence prevention initiatives,” said Police Chief Terry Sult.  
The boy is charged with first degree murder, capital murder, use of a firearm, carjacking, felony evade and elude and possession of a firearm by a juvenile.

HAMPTON -- Police tell 13News Now two people have died following a double shooting at a skate park in Hampton. 

Police responded to Woodland Skate Park around 4 p.m.

Two people were shot after an apparent altercation, officials said. 

Witnesses told police they heard several shots and thought it was fireworks. A suspect on a moped was seen leaving the scene.

Around 4:06 p.m., Hampton Dispatch received a call for a stolen Jeep Liberty from the 1700 block of Newton Road.  Police say an individual, matching the shooting suspect’s description, had stolen it.

Around 4:14 p.m., officers found  the Jeep in the area of Shelton Road and Grimes Road. Police pursued it and were able to take the suspect into custody at a marina behind the VA Medical Center at 4:19 p.m.

The circumstances and the motive are still under investigation.
