WILLIAMSBURG-Police say four children were left in a car while their parents went into the library.

31-year-old Shamika Lassiter and 36-year-old James Avent are each charged with four counts of child neglect.

Williamsburg Police were called to the regional library in the 500 block of Scotland Street around 1:00 p.m. Thursday and found the children, ages 7, 4 and two twins at 7 months, asleep in the unlocked Isuzu, said Major Greg Riley.

The engine was running, he noted.

Riley says the children woke up and said they didn't know where there parents were, so officers went into the library and found the couple 10 minutes later.

The child weren't hurt, Riley stressed.
