GLOUCESTER-- In his radio address Tuesday, Governor Bob McDonnell suggested that certain school officials should be allowed to carry guns while at work in an effort to better protect themselves against potential violence.
Gloucester School Superintendent Dr. Ben Kiser says he isn't sure that is the answer.
"I can't say I'm in support of arming our educators. I don't believe that would be the best strategy," Kiser said.
Kiser says other superintendents he has talked with share the same position and warn not to jump to any decisions too quickly.
Kiser says he's in favor of an increased presence of law enforcement in the elementary school system.
"We haven't extended that kind of structure to the elementary schools. I think the question now is, should we? And how soon can that take place?"
