ELIZABETH CITY—A shooting victim is recovering after being wounded on the Elizabeth City State University campus. Police have identified the victim as 23 year old Jake Laumoli.
Saturday night, authorities put the campus on lockdown after the shooting. Laumoli was taken to Albemarle Hospital where he was treated and released.
Police encouraged students to stay inside their residence halls until the lockdown was lifted around 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
School officials say local police were already present on the campus to assist with security due to a concert taking place at the Robert L. Vaughn Center.
No arrests have been made, but police are interviewing witnesses.
This is the second lockdown because of a shooting in two days. Just after 11:00 p.m. Thursday, someone who is not a student fired a gun.
Captain Mark Gray with University Police received a superficial facial abrasion on the right cheek during the investigation. It was unclear how he was hurt; he was treated by emergency personnel and went back to work, the university stated.
Both incidents are under investigation and it hasn't been determined if the two incidents are connected.
