NEWPORT NEWS-- There will be increased police presence Friday at Patrick Henry Mall in Newport News after Thursday night fights that forced management to close the mall early.

Police spokesperson Lou Thurston said mall security called around 7:10 p.m. and said young people were fighting in the food court area.

He said the group dispersed when police arrived, but the fight started up again after officers left.

Police returned to the mall and worked to stop the fight; management decided to close the mall early to help calm the situation.

"Out of nowhere, you just see a whole bunch teenagers just running and running. The sign got knocked on the floor, someone fell on the floor. It was crazy," said one mall employee.

A 16-year-old girl was charged with disorderly conduct, two 14-year-old boys face charges of trespassing and disorderly conduct and a 16-year-old boy was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.  18-year old Maurice Wilbor Chapman Jr.,  was releasedon a summons for trespassing.

There were no injuries and no weapons recovered, Thurston stressed.

The mall opened at 10:00 a.m.

On the day after Christmas 2011, five teens were charged after fighting in the mall. It happened around 7:00 p.m. and the mall did not close.
