EDENTON, NC -- The new decor at a home in Edenton, NC caused quite a stir.

The house was painted yellow with purple shutters.  There are hubcaps nailed to the fence posts and trees; a metal trash can is painted purple, too.

Town officials believe Queens Landing Development, which owns the home, was responsible.

The home was reportedly in foreclosure and the company had a problem with the bank, so they say.

"It was a statement saying the way the economy is.  Everybody's getting foreclosed on, everybody's losing their jobs. This person just made a statement," said .

After calls from people in the neighborhood,  town officials told the owners to clean it up.

What it looks like now isn't exactly what they meant - covered in white spray paint.

But the look is easier for people living nearby.
