NORFOLK (AP) -- A fire at a Norfolk marina has destroyed three boats and damaged at least three others.

The Coast Guard says the fire broke out on a 45-foot sailing vessel at the Vinings Landing Marina around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday and spread to nearby boats.

Three of them sank and at least three others were damaged.

Norfolk Fire Rescue and a Virginia Beach Fire Department boat crew responded on scene and extinguished the fire.

Fire crews from Norfolk and Virginia Beach extinguished the blaze.

Responders are using absorbent pads and a boom to control fuel from the boats.  IMS Environmental and Moran Environmental Recovery have been hired to clean up and recover three sunken vessels, according to the Coast Guard.

Coast Guard pollution investigator Ensign David Herndon says boaters in the marina's vicinity should exercise caution but there's no immediate pollution threat to the public.

The cause of the fire hasn't been determined.
