NORFOLK -- Two Old Dominion University students and one person not affiliated with the university were robbed at gunpoint early Friday morning, police told 13News Now.

According to spokeswoman Karen Parker-Chesson, three people were robbed just a few blocks from campus, in the 1300 block of West 39th Street around 1:30 a.m.

ODU spokeswoman Giovanna Genard says the incident occurred on the front porch of a private residence.

Genard says the two suspects were wearing a dark-colored bandannas across their face.

The victims handed over the property and the suspects fled on foot towards Bluestone Ave. The victims were not physically injured, Genard said.

Several students told 13News Now Friday they are taking aggressive measures to stay safe.

"My friend is thinking about getting a gun because she doesn't feel safe on campus or in the area," ODU student Tyler Williams said.

The first suspect is described as a white or light-skinned black male, approximately 5 feet 8 inches, medium build, with a “buzz cut,” dressed in dark clothing with a dark-colored bandanna over his face. He was armed with a black handgun.

The second suspect is described as a black male, dressed in dark clothing, with a dark bandanna covering his face.

Old Dominion University Police encourage the campus community to follow personal safety practices:
•    Avoid carrying large sums of cash or valuables
•    Report suspicious persons and activities to the police
•    Remain aware of your surroundings.

An investigation is on-going.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
