NORFOLK -- Police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was discovered in an apartment around Noon on Sunday.

Officers responded to the 700 block of Johnson Avenue in the Huntersville section of the city for a "check the welfare" type call. In an apartment at that location, they found an unresponsive adult female. She was pronounced dead on scene.

Police are classifying the incident as a homicide, but are not yet releasing the exact cause of death. They have a "person of interest" in custody.

The victim's next-of-kin have not yet been notified, so they can't release her ID.

Police believe the incident is domestic in nature.
