NEWPORT NEWS -- A Newport News sheriff's deputy is accused of having a sexual relationship with a female inmate.
Vincent L. Townes, 41, is charged with one count each of carnal knowledge of an inmate, aiding the escape of a prisoner, and unauthorized delivery of articles to a jail.
Townes was hired by the Newport News Sheriff's Office in August of 2004.
He's been suspended without pay pending the outcome of the case.
