CURRITUCK CO., NC – A 16-year-old Knotts Island girl who pleaded guilty to second degree murder was sentenced Monday.
Rebecca "Becca" Blackmore was accused of stabbing her newborn daughter to death and was sentenced to serve between 10 years and five months and 13 years and three months in jail.
Blackmore went to the emergencey room at Chesapeake General Hospital on June 17 and said she had given birth to a baby. She claimed the baby died and she left the girl in her bedroom closet, police said.
When Currituck County Sheriff’s Deputies got to her home at 290 Knotts Island Road they say they found the dead baby in the closet.
The medical examiner determined the child was alive at the time of her birth and that her death was the result of multiple stab wounds.
Blackmore was a sophomore at Currituck County High School.
