CURRITUCK CO. – Officials say a volunteer fire chief died after suffering heart problems while fighting a fire.
Fire officials say Knotts Island Volunteer Fire Department Chief Scott Morrison was helping put out a brush fire Sunday afternoon when he collapsed into respiratory and cardiac arrest.
Officials say he was treated at the scene by Currituck EMS and also while en route to a hospital in Virginia.
Efforts to revive Chief Morrison were not successful and he was pronounced dead at approximately 5:30 pm.
He is survived by his wife, Jessica, and their two children.
An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of Morrison's death.
