UPDATE:  Volunteers collected enough food to provide over 577,000 meals to local families.

The turkeys and non-perishable items donated at Pembroke Mall are being distributed to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore’s community-based Partner Agencies Monday and Tuesday from the Foodbank’s main office location on Tidewater Drive in Norfolk. This efficient turnaround ensures the food will reach families by the Thanksgiving holiday.

HAMPTON ROADS -- Radio stations FM99 and 106.9 The Fox have once again answered the call to help feed the needy in Hampton Roads.

The Mayflower Marathon Food and Fund Drive kicked off at 5:30 a.m. Friday and runs through Sunday, November 24 at 3 p.m.

In the Target parking lot at Pembroke Mall and at Coliseum Central in Hampton, contributions of food and funds are being collected by volunteers for the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore.

Last year, the Mayflower Marathon provided 483,000 thousand meals for the needy. This year, the need is even greater as the organization is seeing a 30 percent increase in the number of people seeking assistance.
