VIRGINIA BEACH - Police have arrested a Va. Beach man and charged him with the sexual assault of a woman that happened Friday night.

Monday morning around 11:45 a.m., two officers spotted a man who they believed matched the description of the suspect.

The man initially gave false information to the officers.

The officers came in contact with the suspect a second time and a short foot pursuit ensued.  The suspect was taken into custody in the 4800 block of Dolton Drive.

Police have charged Lawrence Anthony Norfleet, 57,  of  the 4800 block of Woodsedge Road,  with one count of Rape, one count of Sodomy and False Information to Avoid Arrest.  Norfleet is currently being held without bond in the Virginia Beach Correctional Center.

Police say Norfleet was on a bike when he came upon and sexually assaulted the woman Friday night.

Authorities say the woman was riding her bike when she stopped and waited under a tree in the 400 block of Independenc Blvd.  to get shelter from the rain.

The man did the same and then punched her repeatedly. When she fell to the ground, he sexually assaulted her.

Police released surveillance camera video of the man.
