NEWPORT NEWS -- Police tell us a Newport News man was charged with reckless driving and felony hit and run after leaving the scene of an accident on Friday.

Clifton Matthew Mallicott, 19, is accused of hitting a woman when he allegedly drove over a curb and onto the sidewalk in the 500 block of Bland Boulevard around 9:15 Friday morning.

Mallicott was driving a 2002 Honda Accord and had passengers in the vehicle. Police say the vehicle stopped and one of the occupants got out to speak with the 43-year-old victim.

The victim was transported to a local hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

On Friday afternoon around 4:40 p.m., Mallicott walked into Police Headquarters on Hemlock Road and advised he had been involved in a car accident earlier in the day.

He was charged after speaking with investigators.
