ACCOMACK CO.--A man suspected of setting more than 70 arson fires along with his fiance in Accomack County was denied bond Wednesday.

A judged declined to set bond for Charles R. Smith III during his appearance in General District Court.

Smith and Tonya Bundick were arrested last week and are charged with one count of arson and conspiracy to commit arson. Police say a surveillance operation caught the two setting a fire in Melfa.

Police say they are confident the couple is behind most of the 77 arson fires set in the county since November.

Bundick had her first court appearance last week. A preliminary hearing for Smith is set for May 6.

The two are being held without bond.
