PORTSMOUTH - Portsmouth Police charged a 22-year-old man following a four-hour standoff early Thursday.

Police say someone reported seeing Donald Earl Kerner with a gun around 2:20 a.m. at the home in the 3500 block of Scott Street.  Other callers indicated he was drunk and had threatened family members, said spokeswoman Det. Jan Clark.

Police and SWAT tried to make contact with him but after getting no response, they went into the home around 6:30 a.m., Clark stated.

Kerner is charged with brandishing a firearm and assault and battery for allegedly assaulting family members and pointing the gun at them, Clark told WVEC.com.
