YORKTOWN -- Police say a man had sexual encounters with a teenager he was coaching.

According to the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office, Gordon T. Hammersley was her private tennis coach and the woman reported the incidents on May 13.

She said they happened when she was 14- and 15-years-old between November 1, 2009 and June 1, 2010, said Sgt. Dennis Ivey.  Several of these incidents allegedly occurred in Hammersley's car when it was parked in York County, he added.

"It's their time table when they [the victim] are comfortable talking about it.   Did she feel like he is this guy still teaching tennis? Is he going to prey on another girl?  You just don't know," said Ivey.

Hammersley, 31, is charged with seven counts of Indecent Liberties by a person in a custodial or supervisory relationship.

Investigators believe the encounters happened a lot more than that.

"Seven was the number the commonwealth's attorney thought seemed appropriate," said Ivey.

Investigators want to hear from anyone who may have had similar inappropriate sexual contact with Hammersley. They can call Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.

The investigation continues.
