VIRGINIA BEACH -- A man was driving without a license when he hit a 14-year-old girl who was walking her bicycle across the street, Va. Beach Police say.

The child was expected to be released from the hospital Monday after being treated for scrapes and cuts, her family said.

They said she was riding bicycles with a friend and they got off their bikes to cross Princess Anne Road and Matthews Green Road around 3:30 p.m. Saturday. They said one car stopped for them as they headed to the Southgate subdivision, but another driver didn't. The teen was thrown 35-40 feet, according to investigators.

Police say 41-year-old Brian Michael Montella was issued a summons for not having an operator's License.  They say he did stop and help.

The investigation continues.
