HAMPTON ROADS -- Hampton's Fort Monroe is holding its final July 4th celebration as an active base.

The Army is set to leave the post in September.

"It's going to be sad.  We're going to miss this, because it was always the place to go to," said Hampton resident Anneliese Penn.  Now we have to figure out where to go to next."

Meantime the Virginia Beach oceanfront is having one of the busiest weekends of the summer.

13News ran into quite a few patriotic beachgoers.

"It's awesome.  It's really perfect, said Noi McCollum.  "It's not too crowded and it's really just amazing.  I love it."

But some weren't so excited about the price to park.

"This is an absolute rip-off," complained Susan Klein, "and the city should get involved in this.  This is disgusting."

At Norfolk's Town Point Park, the city is hosting the Great American Picnic and those attending will get to see two shows worth of fireworks.  The cancelled Harborfest fireworks will be added in with those already planned for July 4th.
