CHESAPEAKE -- A perfect storm could be brewing for an increase in the black bear population.
You may recall the many encounters last year of black bears in urban settings in Hampton Roads.
Wildlife officials tell 13News there have been many more reports of black bear females giving birth to triplets.
After about a year they kick their young males out to make room for the next litter, the young black bear males have a difficult time
"Pushed by older dominant males and they're a lot of times the ones that end up in trouble, which the bear that ended up on the Oceanfront in Virginia Beach last year was what we think to be about a two year old male black bear," said Aaron Proctor of the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.
Proctor says the bear nuisance season, as he refers to it, starts in April and runs through September.
This will be the period in which he expects to see more of what he calls high-profile incidents between black bears and the general public.
