Hampton school locked down after shooting
HAMPTON -- Hampton Police are looking for 24-year-old Jerell Lamont Overton in connection with a Thursday morning shooting on Hampton Roads Avenue.
Police spokesman Sgt. Jason Price said a man had been shot in the lower torso during an argument that occurred around 9:00 a.m. in the 400 block of Hampton Roads Avenue.
Price said the victim and Overton know each other, but the suspect hasn't been caught.
Three schools - Bassette, Andrews and Armstrong elementary - were locked down for about half an hour as a precaution as police investigated the incident, Hampton Public Schools officials stated.
Overton has warrants on file for Malicious Wounding, Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
