HAMPTON-- A pit bull is killed after reportedly charging after two police officers.
Saturday around 6:35 a.m., the officers were searching for a wanted felon in the 1900 block of Andrews Avenue. Police say a pit bull broke through a fence and began chasing them. The officers ran across the street, waiting for animal control to catch the dog. However, police say the pit bull continued to try to attack. Two officers fired their guns, striking the dog.
Animal control transported the pit bull to an Emergency Veterinary Clinic where the dog had to be euthanized as a result of its injuries.
Police say at the time of the incident, they were searching for Michael Anthony Cleaton. He currently has warrants on file for Felony and Misdemeanor Violation of a Protective Order.
The officers were not injured and the investigation is ongoing.
