HAMPTON--A man is in critical condition after being hit by a car in Hampton Tuesday night.

Officers responding to the 2600 block of West Mercury Boulevard around 9:30 p.m. found the man lying in the street.  According to police spokesman Sgt. Jason Price, the man was struck in the eastbound lanes by a 2005 Mercedes E350.

Lakeata Boone told WVEC.com that her sister was in the front passenger seat at the moment of impact.

"I got a call from my sister, she was crying," Boone said. "She was really, really frantic, all she kept saying was' we hit somebody, there's a lot of blood, I think he's dead.'"

The driver did not leave the scene and was being interviewed by police. The investigation is on-going and no charges have been filed.
