CHARLOTTESVILLE -- An accreditation agency's decision to put the University of Virginia on warning has led to a complaint with the Department of Education.

The American Council of Trustees and Alumni is seeking an investigation against the Southern Association of Colleges.

It says the agency had no basis for issuing the warning and over-stepped its role as an accrediting agency.

This came after UVA was issued a warning in December over its messy bid to oust President Teresa Sullivan.

Sullivan was later reinstated.
