UPDATE 11/25: Marcus Jermaine Norman was sentenced by Circuit Court Judge A. Bonwill Shockley to 30 years in prison.
VIRGINIA BEACH -- A fugitive from Georgia is accused of breaking into a Virginia Beach hotel room and raping a woman.
The crime happened Sunday just after 1:00 in the morning, in the 400 block of S. Independence Boulevard.
After the assault, the victim fled to the bathroom, where she was able to call for help. Police spokesperson Jimmy Barnes said the man was about to leave the room when officers arrived on the scene and arrested him.
Marcus J. Norman, 26, has been charged with rape and breaking and entering. He is in custody without bond.
Police say the victim does not know the suspect.
Tristin Brown knows Norman. He tells 13News that Norman had recently been staying at the hotel since getting out of jail.
"When the cops came to my door, I was like 'Alright, it must be something bad.' And I saw him standing outside with no clothes on," said Brown.
Norman has outstanding warrants in Georgia, according to police.
