SMITHFIELD - More money is headed to Isle of Wight County schools so there will be no furloughs, layoffs or other cuts.

At Thursday's emergency meeting, the county Board of Supervisors voted to send $676,000 to get educators through the rest of the school's fiscal year, which ends June 30.

That was added to the $750,000 previously approved, but school officials said they needed $1.4 million or tough decisions would have to be made.

Following the vote, which took place during an 11:30 a.m. meeting, the supervisors and school board members agreed to meet to work out better communications so there wouldn't be these kinds of concerns in the future.
