PERQUIMANS COUNTY, NC-- A former teacher and coach at Perquimans County High School is due in court Wednesday on a charge of statutory rape.
According to Sheriff Eric Tilley, Harrell Garrett Thach, 57, of Emerald Isle, NC was charged Monday for an alleged incident with a 14-year-old student in Perquimans County 16 years ago.
The Perquimans Weekly reports Thach worked for Perquimans schools from August 1983 until June 2004. He was a teacher and athletic director and also coached the high school football and track teams.
The paper also reports Thach has resigned his job as a teacher at New Bern High School.
