HAMPTON-The weather may be hot, but downtown Hampton will be even hotter on Saturday. The annual Five-Alarm Festival & Chili Cook-Off is Saturday at Carousel Park, next to the Virginia Air and Space Center at 602 Settlers Landing Road.
13News Now anchor LaSalle Blanks will join other judges, including some military veterans, to taste the creations and pick the winning chili.
Teams will put their secret chili recipes to the test beginning at noon with a public cook-off lasting until 2:30 p.m. Also at the event will be food vendors, fire safety demonstrations, children’s activities, exhibitors, and more. The event starts at noon and runs until 4:00 p.m. and is the kick-off to National Fire Prevention Week (October 6-12).
If you want to taste the chili for yourself, buy a ticket - 50 cents each - and be an unofficial judge.
In addition to chili, food vendors will be on site selling hot dogs and hamburgers. Proceeds from chili and food sales will be used for fire prevention and public education.
The event is free, but you'll need to buy tickets for the food - tickets are .50 each.
