CHESAPEAKE - The woman killed in a head-on collision Thursday morning was a well-known veterinarian.
Police say 59-year-old Ruth Ann MacQueen was driving a mini-van going south in the 2300 block of Shillelagh Road when her vehicle collided with an Isuzo Rodeo around 8:00 a.m. The two teenagers in that vehicle were taken to the hospital for treatment.
On Sunday, 18-year-old Lauralee Moose was charged with reckless driving by driving a vehicle not under proper control.
MacQueen's husband of 7 years, Roger Pope, says his wife was on her way to her mom's house before going to work at the Midway Veterinary Hospital.
"She loved animals, always wanted to work with them from the time she was a child," Pope said.
The injured students attend Grassfield High School, said police spokeswoman Officer Kelly O'Sullivan.
Fire Dept. Battalion Chief Sam Gulisano told WVEC.com one of the injured was trapped and crews worked to get that person out and the other was taken to the hospital.
Investigators say it doesn't appear speed, alcohol or use of a telephone while driving were factors in this crash.
